Our Story
Double D Express began our journey when an Iowa farm boy, possessing strong work ethic and a passion for success, had the vision to create a trucking company for Illinois shippers.
Gary Dahl moved to the Illinois Valley after his service in the US Army. As the transportation industry navigated deregulation of the 1980’s, Gary identified a need for a strong Illinois-based LTL carrier. In June of 1985 Gary founded Double D Express. Gary’s motto of “Service with Commitment” was the bedrock of Double D Express, and it still holds true to this day. 40+ years later, Double D Express has grown from a few employees and a make-shift dock to one of the finest regional LTL carriers and logistics providers in the transportation industry.
Today, Double D Express is 100% employee owned with terminals in Peru, IL and Springfield, IL. We employ over 120 people, providing direct service throughout Illinois along with eastern Iowa. Many other Midwest carriers have come and gone; however, Double D remains deeply rooted in Illinois LTL, in our dependable service and our customer focused culture. No other carrier does Illinois LTL transportation better, faster, and more reliably than Double D Express!
Over the years, Double D Express has expanded our coverage area with the help of well-respected partner-carriers who reflect our same dedication to service. We currently provide solid service to and from several Midwest states, and our map continues to grow!
